Situation and Issues
A local mining services company was taking their cutting edge products to the nation and beyond. Since they serviced their customers from one permanent location their workforce was very mobile. Therefore, they needed effective mobile communication, and SMS simply wouldn't do the job. They needed to access their corporate email and Outlook calendars so that they could effectively manage and coordinate their time as easily as if they were in the office.
Solution and Benefits
The solution needed to provide a convenient method for them to connect to their collaboration tools in real time whilst out of the office. Our solution was to implement iMate JasJams (pictured below) for eight of their mobile staff. The JasJam is a mobile PDA that can be configured to connect remotely to your network from anywhere that your carrier has mobile coverage. It provides a range of business functionality including:
- Mobile Phone (including video calls)
- Email and Calendaring
- Digital camera (Video and Still)
- Internet (both on screen and as modem for a PC or laptop).
- It's also possible to watch TV on the device
These devices allowed them to communicate more rapidly and organise and manage their time more effectively. As a result they're empowered with fingertip information and can respond faster to their customer's requests. Since the device replaces their mobile phone they gain these benefits without needing to carry extra mobile devices or invest in laptops.
